In recent years, due to the harms of synthetic-added foods, consumers are turning to food products that contain natural food additives, less processed, safer, healthier and have a longer shelf life. Therefore, the food industry has focused on finding natural compounds as an alternative to synthetic food additives, both to meet the new demands of consumers and to increase market competitiveness. Due to these natural pursuits, medicinal and aromatic plants have found an increasingly widespread...

There are not enough studies on the benefits and harms of traditional and uniform dietary restriction in dialysis patients. For example, many studies show that restriction of phosphorus in the diet of dialysis patients may lead to a worse nutritional status and will have a worse process. In addition, the restriction of potassium in the diet may deprive dialysis patients of healthy diets related to the heart. This may lead to the intake of more atherogenic diets. Another important point is that...

Modifiable and non-modifiable factors play a role in the occurrence of cardiovascular diseases, as well as free radicals. Free radicals are caused by a decrease in the antioxidant level or an increase in the amount of oxidant in the cells. In the studies, it has been suggested that the consumption of vegetables, fruits and foods with high antioxidant content is effective in preventing many diseases, especially phenolic compounds with antioxidant effect prevent diseases. Phenolic compounds are...

Laryngeal cyst is a rare entity that constitutes only 4.3-6% of all benign laryngeal tumors and epiglottic vallecular cyst (EVC) is a variant of laryngeal cysts. As EVCs mostly remain asymptomatic in adulthood, they are only followed-up without any intervention. However, recent studies have shown that EVCs are not as innocuous as they have previously been regarded. Therefore, the detection of these lesions is of clinical importance. The majority of the EVCs are unintentionally discovered by...

To the editor: The role of tobacco use in the development of diabetes can easily be missed possibly in the presence of other widely known risk factors. A regional study done in 2012 explores this relationship using data collected through a population-based survey [1]. The study is an example of how effectively the data collected through a cross-sectional survey can be used to address various population-level health issues. This article examines a positive relationship between tobacco use and...

Epstein Barr virus (EBV), which may develop at any age, is a common infection of childhood and young adulthood. EBV is transmitted by oropharyngeal secretions, close contact, blood, and by contaminated articles. Clinically, it is characterized by fever, sore throat, fatigue, and generalized lymphadenopathy. EBV-associated thrombosis has rarely been reported, mostly in immunocompromised patients. In this paper, we report on a 46-year old male admitted with fatigue, lack of appetite, and...

The plantar area is different from other parts of the skin because its unique structure is resistant to external stress from physical activities. However, hyperkeratotic local skin thickening due to standing for long periods of time, recurrent minor traumas, unsuitable shoe choice, or bone deformity is called a callus. This condition, which is seen in more than 78% of the population, is more frequent in older populations. Calluses may cause workload loss, difficulty in carrying out daily...

The increased survival of patients with sickle cell disease (SCD) into adulthood leads an increased incidence of multiorgan dysfunction. The lung is one of the most common organs that may be involved in SCD. The pulmonary manifestations of SCD are the leading cause of morbidity and mortality in these patients. Although pulmonary manifestations of SCD are very common, they remain underdiagnosed by clinicians. The main pulmonary manifestations of SCD are acute chest syndrome, chronic dyspnea,...

Words are an expression of the soul. And the condition of our soul is very likely to have an enormous impact on the water that composes as much as 70 percent of our body, and this impact will in no small way affect our bodies [1]. Stump appendicitis is defined as re-inflammation of residual appendix tissue after incomplete appendectomy. Clinically, it presents with acute abdominal pain. Early diagnosis is vital for avoiding potential complications. A history of appendectomy lowers clinical suspicion and increases morbidity. Stump appendicitis should be considered as the diagnosis in patients with appendectomy presenting with lower right quadrant pain and signs of peritonitis. In this paper, we report a 51-year-old...

Lipomas are the most common benign soft tissue tumors. Although lipomas often appear in subcutaneous locations, they may develop in any part of the body. Intrathoracic osteolipomas and the malignant degeneration of osteolipomas are very rare. However, surgical resection is required for the diagnosis and treatment of lipomas. Complete resection is the only definitive treatment and the only way of preventing relapse. In this paper, we present a literature review and a rare intrathoracic...
